ROC™ wear resistant steel is delivered in quenched condition. During quenching, steel achieves martensitic microstructure, which gives very high hardness. The strictly controlled chemical alloying and hardening process guarantees high wear resistance as well as good impact strength and processing. ROC™ is available in three steel grades, which represent different typical Brinell hardness values – 400, 450 and 500 HBW.
Typical applications for ROC™ steels are those where high hardness and good impact strength can increase lifetime of wear parts. Typically, 400 HBW steel can work about twice as long as mild steel and 500 HBW steel can work even 3–3.5 times longer. ROC™ steels are widely used in: cement and metal industry, mines and quarries, agriculture, yellow goods, energy and recycling.
ROC™ steels can be welded, cut, bent and machined with all common methods. Due to high hardness, special requirements have to be taken into account. Depending on plate thickness it can be required to preheat plates before welding and thermal cutting. Bending should be performed with given tools dimensions and plates should be processed in room temperatures. Machining should be made with HSS + 8 % Co tools or for higher productivity with carbide tips tools.
